Snowfield

The simple things in life are often overlooked. They aren't necessarily mundane, but just taken for granted. We are not naturally content with what we have before us. We marvel at the brilliant sunsets, snow capped mountain peaks, cascading waterfalls, prismatic colors of a rainbow, symmetry of waves and the list can go on; like the flowers of a field, or the field of stars in heaven. When we set our day about “seeking the good”, we need to be content with what God shows us. I call this the simple things in life and there is always a lesson to learn. Today's photo of a wintry snow covered field would otherwise be a grass covered field that a farmer would plow for his crops. Many such fields are all over Estonia, and would be mostly for hay, rye, marjoram, potatoes and some other crops. This unassuming landscape along a country road, shows the simple beauty and wonder of God's creation and his goodness to man. People go to the ends of the earth to view that special sight, but there is also plenty of good to seek in our own back yards. Winter here is not quite over, and our 4 year old daughter knows that she will soon see flowers, green grass and leaves with trees. After the snow melts away in a couple more months her hope will be fulfilled, but the ground still kind of wet and muddy. Anyway. The Bible tells us: “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” Contentment is a trait we all need to learn as we seek the good. Contentment is not to be lackadaisical, nor as a title of one book, “Addicted to Mediocrity.” The scripture further says: “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us therewith be content.” (I Timothy (6:6-8). Contentment exhibits confidence, that God shall supply our every need. The snow will melt away and the grassy field will begin to grow. As Jesus said, “Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith.” (Matthew 6:30). Verse 32 says: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness...” We can only go about seeking the good, when we are content with what we have.
